There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, features 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features many luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
